MF 1130 Rear End

We have a 1130 with a cab. Does anyone know how long it should take to put new bearings in the rear end? Probably needs them all.

We are not in there yet. Right now we are just wanting to know how long it should take to remove the cab and put new bearings in the rear end. I am sure we will want to check the clutch and the multipower and the charge pump while we are in there. Any ideas on hours?

Dad has a 1100 with 7000 plus hours, original driveline never apart. A clutch split will give access to the MP clutch at transmission front. Charging pump is under the diff top front cover. If cab is MF they are a big job to remove compared to aftermarket cabs. Not sure why you want to replace bearings, was not a common repair done at the dealer I worked for. If all the major gears and bearings show damage it may be cheaper to replace the tractor, that's why I would check the screen first..

What makes you think the rear end needs bearings? Usually it's the planetaries on the rear that need work because no one really seems to check, and or change the oil in them on a regular basis.

We are not for sure where the noise is coming from. It is going to a shop. I was just wanting to have an idea how long it would take to have an idea what it could possibably cost.

Even though the planetaries run in the hyd/trans oil on a 1130 I still wouldn't be surprised if the noise was coming from the bearings in the plantaries. They are usually the ones that go bad.

Not a Massey guy but I would jack it up and turn the wheel by hand listening carefully. Also check for axle end play. Can use a gauge or just put your finger by seal on end of axle while someone else works the jack. If you measure or feel anything take off wheel and give it a wiggle. The inners can go bad but usually something else happens first. If it is like a Deere planetary it is not too bad to pull axle and service planetary and axle. Sometimes cab can be left and blocked up or held up with hoist. Be careful.
