TO35 What do I have?

Just bought a TO35 diesel. It has a 4 cylinder
engine, runs good. Serial tag is screwed on and
reads #SDM194492 made by Massey Ferguson in US.
Has spin out rims and excellent sheetmetal. Paid
$1000 for it. Faint decal impression reads Ferguson 35. Is it a Massey Ferguson or plan
Ferguson?
 
Your Ferguson appears to have been made in 1959 and has a Standard frame, a dual stage clutch and a Standard diesel engine.
 
Here are the serial number codes:

As soon as possible I would check the hyd/trans fluid.

If you are going to keep the tractor you might think about changing out the hyd/trans fluid.

Sometime during these model years they changed from GL-1 mineral oil to another type fluid.

Many just use 10w40 motor oil in the trans/hyd sump.

The hydraulic pumps on these tractors are down in the bottom of the sump, so if water is in the sump the pump could be setting in water, a disaster waiting to happen during the winter months.
 
After MH bought Ferguson in 1954 MH built tractors with the(MHF) Ferguson name. In 58 they changed the Company name to MF. MF continued to build the TO 35 with the Ferguson badge on front of hood until 1960. They changed over to MF 35 sometime in 1960. No one really knows where the serial # changed to MF 35.
 
We had one of those back in the 70's. As I recall, the 4 cylinder diesel was made by the Standard Motor Co of England and was much more rare than the 3 cylinder Perkins.

Our was worn out and pretty well shot - but it was real handy in the woods.
