Looking for advice on my one wire alternator set up for a possible tachometer. I already have to shop going through the alt to check it out. I really want to know is it possiable to get the tach working again and exactly how? I have read most of the current searched archives and found serveral good ones, but nothing really solid. It is a MF 175.

I've never seen a one wire alt with the tach gear box, but might have been made. MF late 175, 180 diesels did have an alt with the tach drive, but it was the older seperate regulator style. AC 190, 200 models had them also. I put one on my MF 85 diesel when the generator died to keep the tach working.

Could use a tack drive such as this ? Copy and paste this in your search function "Massey Ferguson 1853144M1, 2758346 Tachometer Drive Gearbox" , cost about $50. You may need a longer cable as well. Then you can use any alternator you choose.

It was a add on alternator that just has the one wire set up. I am actually looking into getting a 3 wire alty and getting a rewire going on the whole eletrical system. I have found some places that offer alternators with a gearbox on them for a tachdrive set up. I am going to call them and see what they offer.

I was digging around here on the website and found the alternator for the tach and they also sell the tach gearbox that attaches to the back of the tach capable alty! All I need is the cable and a new gauge. Which YT sells all of these components for this repair/upgrade/fixer upper!
