I have a massey Ferguson 135 diesel I am having problems with the wiring with. I have a one wire alternator and am needing a diagram for. Can anyone help?

If you need it for the whole tractor, but no lights

Awesome diagram, i'm having to deal with the same problem.
The only part i dont understand on the schematic, it shows
more than one connection to the alternator. With a single
wirealternator, shouldnt there only be one connection?

The extra wire going from the alternator to the oil pressure switch excites the alternator so it will start charging right away, without it, it may not start charging until you rev the engine.

On another note where they show the other wire hooked the big + wire the alternator will put out 14 volts, but by the time it gets to the battery it could only be seeing 10 - 12 volts due to resistance in the wire. Sometimes it maybe better to run a wire directly to the + side of the battery so the alternator can see what the voltage is at the battery rather than seeing what the voltage is at the alternator.

excellent job, thank you so much! I'm likely going to be posting some MF165 questions over the next couple of weeks, I'll definitely be looking for you in the replies, excellent work

With the single wire (unless they have a better regulator's than they used to) the only way it would start charging after you started it is to rev the engine once. If you started it, and let it idle for 30 minutes without revving the engine once it wouldn't start charging on it own unless you had the one wire from the oil pressure switch to excite the regulator.

ptfarmer i found some information about the one wire alternator. it seems that the wire from the alternator needs to be connected to the battery post on the starter to get the battery charged up properly. with that being said, one would need to be able to find a way to get the wire routed to the oil pressure switch so the charging system could know the tractor was running. then go to the ampmeter and fuel gauge. am i right?

everything is wired per the diagram. I started the tractor just fine. When I shut it off i noticed the fuel guage was still up and no amount of revving excited the thing to start charging. When I removed the extra wire from the alternator the fuel guage dropped back down. Any suggestions?

Did you try it without the wire from the oil pressure switch hooked to the alternator? If not try it, start it then give the engine a quick rev, and see if it charges. In your case the alternator has a back feed (sending power to the oil pressure switch which caused the fuel pressure gage to stay up when you shut the engine off). If it still doesn't charge I'd suggest you have your alternator tested to make sure its working properly (especially if its not a new one).

That's a great schematic there! Just a side note from experience......I had a one wire alternator once that I couldn't get good grounding thru the alternator mounting and wouldn't charge at idle......installed a ground wire on back of alternator to a bolt off back waterpump and it would charge then.
Moral of the story......must have a good ground!!!!
