Massey-Harris 444 Hydraulics

Could someone explain to me how the hydraulics on a Massey-Harris 444 work? I'm fairly new to Masseys and am trying to figure out the hydraulics. My 444 has the mounted cylinder to operate the 3 point hitch and has the couplings for what I believe they call a follow up cylinder. My question is do both of these cylinders operate from the same lever or are they separate systems? Also, what are the auxiliary valves that the book talks about? I don't believe I have those on my 444. Any other knowledge about the hydraulic systems on the 444 would be great. Thank you in advance.

Kind of a odd ball system. I just bought a 44 special with the Depth-o -matic system. The lever to operate the mounted cylinder is also used to operate a remote cylinder via the hydralic cuoplings.I don't know why its called a folow up cylinder. I believe there is a valve on the mounted cylinder that can be adjusted so that it stays still and the remote cylinder extends/retracts---that is, the valve diverts all of the oil to the remote cyl. I don't think the opposite will work. The auxillary valves mentioned would be a second set of valves tee'd into the hydralic manifold (where the hoses come out, under the dash, beside the PTO shift lever) With an auxillary valve, there would be two hydraulic levers instead of one, for each valve---this was used for mounted cultivators, where one set of valves raised the forward set of cultivators and the other raised the rear set; also could be used to operate a loader with a trip bucket.

I'm sure there are more experts on line here that can enlighten both of us.

The smaller 44 cylinder had a lock out screw at the rear to turn off oil to the tractor cylinder, then the control lever would operate the pull behind cylinder. Not sure about the 333/444 models though if they were equiped the same way.

Yes, most 444 cylinders have a valve you can close to stop the mounted cylinder from moving so you can operate an impliment cylinder. See number 3 on the pic. I do have a 444 auxillary valve for sale if you are interested in adding another valve.
