MH50 broken in half

Gentlemen
Here's the story, my brother has a 56/57 MH 50.
He was plowing snow in the last cold Ohio storm and was having
Problems with hyd response on the 3pt.

All of a sudden they just started coming up and a he heard a
Loud bang. The entire tractor broke in half. It is right infront of the seat. It broke the removable top cove and the entire rear casting all the way around. Unbelievable!!

It pulled apart about 4 inches by the time it stopped.
We chained it together and were able to pull it back to the barn.

So the tractor has been restored years ago, and was in great shape always.
Does anyone know if the 50 and 35 rears are compatable?
We are looking for parts and I know where I can get a 35 for a donor tractor if it would work.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Is your brother's tractor a standard clearance model? If it is, the back half of a 35 should work just fine. Check out the thread on page 3 about "high clearance to standard transmission swap".

This is the casting behind the transmission, correct? If so, it makes no difference between the HiClear and Standard. It's only the transmission gearing and ground speed pto gear that change with a HiClear.

Any idea what caused the break?

It sounds to me like the hydraulic lift is out of adjustment and
the pump relief valve is stuck shut. When the lift arms reached
the top of their travel and did not stop, the relief valve should
have blown stopping the internal piston. With the relief valve
being stuck closed, this did not happen forcing the piston to
blow the cylinder apart and breaking the castings. Have the
relief valve checked or replace it when making repairs.
