New Massey 245

I'm new here, I inherited what I believe is a 1977 MF245 (sn#9A255222). Can anyone confirm this please? It has been sitting for a number of years and I want to bring it back to life, what should I do to accomplish this? Also, i'm mainly going to use it to clear some of our property with a bush hog, anyone know of a hog that i can hook up, i may run into some saplings 2"-3" in diameter so, i'll need something a little heavy duty I believe. I appreciate all the help. I'm on a Army salary so i ain't rich. Ha Ha[/img]

There is a "Search" box at the top of the page, use it to read several previous articles on the 245. I have one close to 5000 hours, Dad has a '76 with < 1800 hours, both diesel. It is one of the toughest tractors made by Massey but the steering cylinder set-up is a weak link to me. Do you have a diesel or gas? 4 speed or 3? Multipower or not? I would highly recommend buying an "Operators Manual", it has a LOT of good info. Others will chime in with more details on getting it going, mostly fluid changes, new fuel, new filters, etc. We pull a 6 foot bush hog and it handles it fine, go slow when hitting those saplings. A bulldozer does a much nicer job of clearing wood versus a hog - lots of sharp stobs left. Once you get it running you will quickly see how good of a tractor it is.

Just an opinion, but I think 2" to 3" is too thick for a tractor / bush-hog. I think you would be damaging your equipment.

It's a 1977 year model. With a bush hog I wouldn't even try a 2" or 3" sapling. Carry a chain saw with you, and cut it down after you mowed around it.
