MH50 Chain that drives hydraulic pump from PTO

I have a great old MH50 that I use on my acreage - while moving snow this week, I broke and lost the chain that drives my hydraulic pump from the sprocket on the PTO shaft. Its buried in a snow pile somewhere close to the tractor, but I havent been able to find it. I believe it is a factory pump/loader system - how do I know what size and length chain to buy?

Eric, this works best with a spare set of hands, but you can take tape measure, or even a piece of baling twine and go around both sprockets to get the length. To get the right size, it shouldn't be too hard to get the sprocket off the PTO shaft - take it with you to get the right size (pitch) chain. I'm guessing it's single row, probably a 50 or 60. You probably know this, but you'll need a master link, and it wouldn't hurt to have a half-link as well. Chains (and spockets) are available from either your local ag equipment dealer, or from places like Tractor Supply (dot com) (stuff mostly made in china).

As PTFarmer says, check the sprockets for wear. New chain on worn sprockets doesn't last long. Sprocket teeth should have a nice clean U shape, with a distinct 'roof' ^ at the tooth tip
