Dropped The Pipe From Remote Valve Down Inside The Case

Was removing the remote hydraulic valve on a MH 50 because the valve was froze up from rust. I started to pull the valve up and the pipe fill into the case. Do I have to take the top-cover off or is there an easier way. That's the way my day is going!

KC, I would jack up the side of the tractor that has the dipstick cover on it, so that the fluid tilts away from opening, then remove the cover and hopefully its somewhere convient. Look around with a flash light, if that doesn't work then you might be forced to take top cover off. Also might need to replace gasket on side cover all depends.

Willowbk has it right, but personally I don't like tilting tractors. The tires stay on the ground unless absolutely necessary.

The round cover with the dip stick by where your right heel would be from the seat can access what you need. If you can see oil to the correct level on the stick, you will need to drain about 3 gallons of oil out of either the front (transmission) or rear (hydraulic pump) case - they're internally connected. If it's warm enough, you may get a little (or a lot of) water if it's spent time outside. If it's cold, it may not drain at all if there's ice in the bottom of the case.

Before reinstalling the tube, check the O rings.

Hope that helps.

I've got a telescoping antenna with a 1/4" magnet, extends out 3' or SO, something like that might work??

Thanks Guys, that was not hard at all. I wanted to change the oil anyhow, so drained the hydraulic, transmission, and rear compartments. Book says 80-90WT, but I think I am going with Trans-Hydraulic oil. Yes, I did change the O-Rings on the pipe.

Glad it went well.

The book may say 80W90, but MF came out with a tech bulletin in the '60's that on lift or transmission service, to replace the gear oil with Perma-Gard (their brand of UTF) to make the hydraulic oil standardized across most of the other major makes. "You dun rite." :)
