Took the 2 hour tour Thursday, tour guide was previous retired plant manager. Enjoyed it very much. No pictures, cameras not allowed, and we were not allowed inside the Engineering Department. Plant is clean, neat, extremely well organized, very safety-conscious, very OSHA ocnscious. We toured all the fabrication areas, lots of big-time manual gas-protected wire-welding, robot-wire-welding, broaching, bending, hobbing, grinding, you name it. Every weld looked perfect. Just made you want to get in there, just over the weekend, if they'd only let you, all the possibilities of things you could make...
New $50 million paint building, German-designed, state of the art, better than BMW or Mercedes, 25,000 gallon vat after 25,000 gallon vat, pickling / rinse / primer / etc etc etc/ paint dipping vats, extremely interesting. Didn't see one operator in the entire paint building. AGCO is stopping water-bath spray painting, going to powder coating. They make MF, Challenger, and I think Fendt.
Newest robots are huge things, the humans are feeding the 'Bots parts, loading the 'Bots.
On the bigger MF combines, you can choose the red-white-blue flag sides option, for an additional $4500 or so. Can get MF red, can also get a bad-looking all-black.
Saw the new combine final-test room, every combine gets a final test, rough-ground shake test, speed dino test, electric test, etc etc etc. Every so often one needs to get pulled for a correction.
I highly recommend the tour. Cannot miss the AGCO plant, get to Hesston, KS, take Lincoln Blvd, go a few blocks, it's on the right. Call Melissa 1.620.327.6431, and she'll get you a motel reservation nearby, and get you a tour date and time.
I want to go back, see more of what I missed. We saw it all, but we really hoofed it. Didn't waste any time.
