MF135 Issues

Last week I had a chance to buy a 135 but didnt because of the
clutch. The symptoms were that the tractor would only move with
the clutch pedal almost at the very end of its upward travel. Also
the pedal had no spring to it at the very top. Could this be an
adjustment issue or is it ready for a new dual clutch assy ? Also I
noticed that when steering straight ahead that the front wheels
seemed ok. But when I turned to the right the right wheel would
seem to lean badly out at the top and make it difficult to straighten
back up ? What gives ? Thanks for any help.

Hi Ric,
The clutch problem that you are suggesting is reminiscent of impending clutch failure. It would appear that there is only enough pressure applied when the pedal is fully released. It may even be a case that the clutch would slip when fully warmed up. Don't turn the tractor down for just the clutch. It is not a difficult job to fit a new one and there are plenty of friends here to help you with advice if you have any difficulties.
As a first step you would need to check for wheel bearing play. If there is no, or little play there could be a bend at the bottom of the king-pin. Check the distance between the edge of the tyre and outer section of the axle beam at full LH and RH lock and compare them.
Difficulty in returning to straight ahead could be caused by the semi-siezed king-pin in its bushes. Is there any evidence of greasing being carried out?

David thanks for your help. At the price the guy was asking for the tractor (2800.00) it should be in usable condition IMO. Splitting the tractor and doing clutch work-front end repair just didnt seem logical when other similar tractors are around in better shape.

If that's the only real problems the tractor has it's not a bad price. If it has a Perkins 3.152 diesel that runs good, the engine alone is worth the $2,800.00

As a gas burner owner $2800 is a bit much. The one I bought with the Continental 4 cyl gas, the guy wanted $2500 (but had a engine knock), I offered $1500 cash, and took it home. I had to re-bush the whole front end, a friend of me had a good used crankshaft, new water pump, and new clutch. Spent around $500 on parts.
