Has anyone tried the Oil Filter Adapter KIt, Spin On part #
s.42809, on there mf65 gas contiental engine bought from this
website?

I always worried about these filters placed so low on the engine block.
I have a TO35 and my filter is very low, I have had sticks in the woods kick up and hit the oil filter housing,

I always figured, if it worked for 58 years it was good enough for me.

if you do change just be aware of the filter being hit. do not know how long it would take for all the oil to run out, before you knew it had a hole in it.

the old 1957 ac tractor I had did have a spin on filter, but it was located high up on the engine.

If the Continental G167 oiling system is like the Continental Z series engine the oil filter is merely a bypass oil filter system (the filtered oil is returned back into the oil pan rather than sent to the bearings) which doesn't do very much. I prefer the spin on filters myself (easier, and less mess to deal with). Use which ever one you prefer, they both do the same job. [/list]

Forgot to mention, if you do keep the canister oil filter.

My canister has a spring and washer that keeps the filter pressed against the motor block. If these parts are not inside the canister, the oil is not being filtered, the oil is just being pumped through the canister.

I can give a close answer on how long the oil takes to drain out. Dad changed the oil on our 165 but the gasket didn't seal and he didn't notice right away. He ran it for about 5 minutes or maybe a little longer before he noticed and it had pumped out just about all of the oil.
