175 clutch adjustment

Ok guys, I have all my hyd problems fixed. Ipto and pumps are all acting normally. Now I am on to the clutch. How do I know what type of clutch my 175 has? It is a 175 with multipower transmission. And how can I adjust the clutch for proper operation? It seems to be slipping a bit when going up a terrace or hill.

I would agree with ptfarmer. When the Multi-Power system is believed to be fully operational and there is 'slippage' present the likelyhood is that the clutch plate will need replacing.
It is possible although unlikely that you may have a dual clutch system. A small number of tractors came out of Banner Lane with IPTO and dual clutch fitted. Don't know if it might have been the same in the States.
To check which type you have remove the plate under the clutch housing. Using a flashlight look at the clutch unit. First of all check for any presence of oil dampness on the unit. Check also for any broken pieces of lining. If it is dry look at the rear section of the unit. If it's a dual the edge of the PTO plate should be clearly visible with its pressure plate. In the UK an 11" main plate was fitted to the 175 but I am not aware of any 11" split torque units. You may have a 12" split torque unit. The split torque unit has the metal centre for what would have been the PTO plate bolted to the cover of the clutch unit....giving a permanent drive. The 11" flywheel has finger-fins cast into the periphery. The 12" flywheel has an almost solid periphery with 3 spiral air slots cast into it.
Whichever type that you have, ask an assistant to press the clutch pedal fully and watch the operation to ensure that the flywheel plate/s are being lifted satisfactorily. Ensure that the clutch linkage is not tight when fully released. This can be adjusted on the clutch arm on the outside of the casing on the left hand side. The arm on the cross-shaft strikes the casing. When you press the pedal there should be approximately 3/8" free travel here before the pedal meets pressure. If necessary slacken the clamp bolt and reposition the shaft using a screwdriver or similar in the cross-drilling to give this figure. Tightness here will cause clutch slippage.
If you have clearance and still have slippage then it would appear that the plate or unit will require replacing.

Looks as if I have a oik leak. I think it is the transmision retainer seal possibly. Wont know for sure till I split it. It does have the split torque clutch. The disk material is seperating when clutch pedal is pushed.
