mf 235 brakes

Hello all,
I have a Massey 235 that needs brake work. One side works OK the other doesn't do much, someone borrowed my tractor and drove it with the brake lock on. Has any one worked on them? How hard is it to do? Also I have large wheel weights and the tires are loaded. Some one told me this tractor has the same rear end (square axle) as used in tractors up to 85hp. Also I am told it has wet brakes. It is the orchard model I think, much heavier duty than a normal 235.
Thanks
Pete

The orchard had the square axle housings, with the planetaries outboard by the tires, and inboard disk brakes. It's a bigger job with the wheel weights, and loaded tires. If you have good mechanical abilities, and something to help lift everything it's not too bad, if not it maybe better to take to someone who's done it before.

I know this may sound stupid, but did you adjust them after it was driven with the brakes locked? If not, I believe I'd do that before replacing them. My 255 and 265 both have been driven with 1 of the brakes locked. Granted, it sure doesn't help the life, but, and I know there are a lot of people on here that are a lot smarter than me, I just can't see where that would ruin them unless the disc were almost completely gone to start with. Just my thoughts, Keith

You could try to adjust it if the brakes worked good before, but it also possible that the brake got glazed making is almost useless. If the brake is glazed the axle housing has to come off, and if the brake on the other didn't work too good you might as well do both sides. I prefer to do both sides at the same time when a brake job is needed.
