44 Massey harris , Worth rebuilding?

I bought this tractor two years ago. The P.O. had disassembled the engine, out in the woods. The head and the oil pan were removed. The wind had blown the covers off the block and the cylinders had water in them and moss was growing on the top of the block. Do you think that there is a chance of getting the pistons loose from the sleeves?
Should I push the piston and the sleeves out together?
Then what? Destroy the liners to save the pistons, or destroy the pistons, to save the liners.

When I put the engine parts in the shed, I found that there were two cam shafts. One had yellow marker writing on it. I assume that there was a problem in the valve train and that the rest of the engine was probably still good at that time.
Thank you
SDE.

They are not a high demand / value tractor and parts are expensive. I have one that was my father's, but unless you have an emotional attachment, move on.

Find another engine, waaay too much work hammering out those pistons/sleeves. Ask me how I know....Ben

I have two other project tractors to work on before I do anything with this one and I have converted the crank shaft pulley to fit my F-20. I hate to throw anything away and this tractor has rims on it that I could destroy for another project, but if I do that, then I know I will scrap it.
Thank you

Hi
From what you have just said about scraping it, I would use the parts for your project and scrap the rest if you or anybody else don't need it.

I don't like to see whole tractors in the crusher, but don't mind seeing part tractors. if the rest has helped another tractor or a project get built. Thats useful re cycling, Rather than china getting all of it!.

unless you have no money in it your going to have lots in it. like others have said by the time your done. some are worth it due to rarity value, others are just to common, and good ones can be bought for less than rebuilding a dog, if you really want one. Thats happened round here with the Fordson majors I collect in the last few years. Good Runners can be had for less than re building mine now. unless it's a rare perkins engine tractor. I still have to re build them due to the rarity and cost of restored ones .

Around here in Ontario, you can buy a running 44 from $1000 to $1500. Keep what's good on yours in the event you find another that needs some repair.

If you decide to scrap it, I could use the starter/generator.. In any condition.. Very close friend is a big Massey collector.. Someone broke into their barn and stole 13 starters and 13 generators, as well as just about every "loose" part they had in that building. He is just trying to find repairable starters to be able to run his tractors again, and a generator to at least get a wide pulley off of. As much as they get run (none are restored) he figures he can just make idlers with the pulleys so the water pumps will at least rotate.

Heck, I'd be interested in whatever is there after you take what you want, depending on your location.
