Loader squeeling noise solved

I posted about a week back that my davis loader was squeeling sounded like the releif valve was making all the noise.I checked the valve and all appeared well.I thought maybe the pump was starving for oil.I had put a 20 GPM filter on the return line thought it would be fine. For lack of any new ideas I deleted the filter.Loader works great and is whisper quite now.I had to neck down the 1" return line to 3/4"to plumb the filter must have been just enough restriction to starve the pump. Thanks everybody who chimed in with ideas ,Its usually something simple.Cheers Chuck K.

I am not understanding why a filter on the return line would starve the pump. Oil will be forced through the filter at the same rate as the pump is pumping when it is on the return line, except when a valve is actuated. Am I missing something?

I only got the squeeling when I pulled the levers.I don't fully understand why the filter couldn't keep up.maybe the output is more then 20GPM "I doubt it".Works well now.

Is the filter on the return line to the reservoir or on the inlet of the pump? On my Davis loader the filter is on the pump intake.

IMO when adding on a filter you should never have to reduce the line size for it. The filter base should at least take the same size fittings as the pump uses, or a filter base that requires a bushing to reduce it down to the same size fitting the pump uses.

You state the filter was on the return line in your first post and then later in the thread you agree with a poster that your filter was in fact on the suction line. This is what has been confusing to me. If the filter was on the suction line, it makes perfect sense the pump was starving since you said you decreased the size through the filter from 1 inch to 3/4 inch. Flows would be furthe reduced based on viscosity of oil and temperature. Was the filter rated for the suction line, some are not.
