Is it possible to do an in frame in a 2805 and
also how much do you think it would cost. The
reason i ask is because someone wants me to
rebuild it. I rebuilt a lot of motors but not a v-
8 Perkins.

Hi
I have never done a v8, But have done a few striaght perkins. I would guess as long as the oil pan comes off and rear main cap can be undone with out splitting, to roll the bearings in then yes.

The biggest thing I can see being the problem is as with any dry sleeve Perkins, is your out of luck if the sleeves won't pull out and need machining. or the rear seals leaking.

To be honest I hate in frames, the only advantage i can see with them would be , not being the guy doing it!.
They are a dirty cheap way of "fixing" issues. I'm fed up with oil and coolant dripping on my head, trying to roll stuck bearings out, and get the new in. And having to reach up 3 ft in the air doing it!.
The one I just did was my last. For 10 hours more i'd do the proper rebuild. I'd even give the guy the 10 hours if he couldn't afford it. It would be worth it ,not to have the aggravation, and an easier job doing it!.

Have had some guys get them done then 3 weeks later the rear engine or trans input seal goes or the clutch. That would of all been caught with a proper re build.
Guys will say I'm wrong, but a couple years ago I made this comment to a Deere guy here. He ripped the motor right down and found his rear seal was ripped and his clutch was about to dump paddles. He would of been the back in 3 weeks guy!.
Regards Robert

That is the only real problem with a in frame is the rear main seal. Every time I do a engine rebuild the engine comes completely out. Plus you can adjust, or change the clutch if it's needed a lot easier (I like to put a new clutch in while the engine is out). Do it all, do it once, and do it right I always say.

Before starting anything I would check to be sure you can get parts. The V8 Perkins parts are getting hard to come by...

Yes they are, but these engines were also used in boats so you may need to take a look at the boat guys.

Hello

Robert is so right. I to will donate the extra time to do it right. As Robert said just working under the tractor is so slow, you really dont save much time if any. Great tractor. I worked in the local MF dealership when these tractors were new.
Good Luck Lance
