making a 55 diesel pull hard, ideas?

I'm working on getting a beater 55 diesel running for the vintage pulls. not looking to do anything excessive as it will be in a stock class.
planning on opening up the pump, advancing the timing and putting in bigger injector tips. anyone know what size of injector tips to go to? how many degrees can i advance the timing without causing engine damage? any other things to do?
thank you

Which pump does it have, the inline or the PSB pump? The original 12SD12 tips are all you need, just make sure they are in good condition. There is a larger 8S2 tip that fits but the fuel won't enter the energy cell correctly with them. As for timing dyno testing should be done when changes are made. At stock RPM it might even like to be retarded slightly like my Super 90 did on the dyno. Turbocharging will help, but with only three mains you'll probably drive over the crank, as some even broke in stock use...
