MF35 Utility -neutral safety switch

I purchased this tractor a while ago and am in the process of fixing it up. The previous owner had the neutral safety switch bypassed and I would like to put it back in service. Looking at the parts manual, it appears there is a small bent wire clip missing. I have found these clips available at Just 8ns. Can some one explain to me how this switch functions, it seems to me that if the clip is installed then the circuit would be hot whether the unit was in neutral or not. I bought the MF Service Manual, but it doesn't include an electrical section. Thanks for the help

The neutral safety switch won't allow the starter to engage unless the hi-low range is in neutral, If it is bypassed, it probably isn't good. Those wire clips hold the wires in place.

Like Bob said the clips just hold the wires in place and the wires have the bullet type connectors on them. You can check the switch by putting the tractor in neutral on the H-L shifter. If it is good you will have continuity between the posts in neutral and no continuity when in H or L.

Good on you, putting safety back in place. We get older and get to assuming too much, it's important to have all the safety back.

Thanks for the replies, after reading them and doing some further testing with the switch on and off the tractor, I think the switch is defective and I will order a new one.
