Anybody have a perkins original complete in box rebuild kit for one these perkins motors? Was told they are no longer available from dealers so thought I'd like try to find one to put on shelf for possible future use if needed......don't plan on retiring my 1155 anytime soon! Trying to plan ahead! Thanks

Hi
If you get the kit, you might want to get rod
and main bearings in all the sizes spare to.

Was a guy on here looking last year. they are
obsolete as well from his searching with
massey, and some I did with guys in the know
about finding obsolete motor parts, and
different suppliers. some said good luck others
was a flat NLA a as soon as they put part
numbers in the computer. Don't know if that guy
ever did find them, he never replied!

would be a shame to get a kit then find the
crank needs work and you can't get the
bearings.
i couldn't find them on ebay either. Just ones
for a 510 that don't fit. I usually find if
this stuffs not on ebay, thats usually its a
sign it's getting rare to. Had that problem
looking for a lift pump for a ford diesel
truck, only 2 of that type for it world wide
listed, and they wouldn't ship to me!

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the input...you have a good point on the main and rod bearings...yeah I've heard different stories on availability for a kit but as you said if they are available its a big secret!
Seems I'm always looking for something obsolete......typical, I'm usually $20 short or 20 years to late! Lol
Merry Christmas.....Thanks Robert

Ring, sleeve and bearing kits were available up until a couple of years ago. New pistons were available too but very expensive. The V8 Perkins are great engines and are very durable. I have three and they all run great. You can run them hard for 30 years before an overhaul is needed if you maintain them well. If I were in your shoes, I would check with any Perkins dealers you can find and see if someone has a kit or parts on the shelf yet. Another possibility is aftermarket parts manufacturers. There are companies out there that can make custom pistons, rings, bearings etc. Very expensive though. Once in a while a good 540 or 640 will show up at a tractor salvage yard in a tractor with blown tranny or sometimes in a combine. It's a shame Perkins decided to stop making parts for them!

Thanks Dan,
Yeah I agree, shame they have decided to stop making new parts for the 510, 540 and 640 v8's.
They are very dependable and tough engines......amazing how much horsepower you can get outta them!
Do you know of any perkins dealers that may be good sources for a kit? Thanks

AGKits has parts for them. AllStates AGParts have gaskets for it, too.
There is a good TV8-640 at AllStatesAgParts, Bridgeport, out of White 9700.

Hi it sounds promising if those guys have the
parts in stock. Couple of places I tried for
the other guy listed bearings, but hadn't got
them.

From what I heard when I was thinking about
putting a 640 in my pulling tractor to replace
the 510. It's a totally different motor. The
only thing it has in common with a 510 or 540.
is Perkins and V8. Guys said it's not a plug
and play swap, like going from 510 to 540 would
be, so guessing it won't fit an 1155 very easy
if at all.
Regards Robert

Sorry to say, I checked at the only Perkins dealer in my neck of the woods a year ago and they were all out of V8 pistons. I wound up getting their last set of 540 sleeves, rings and bearings. And found a good 540 at a salvage yard out of a 1155 that had a fire in the cab. Then rebuilt it and put it into my 1150 to replace the worn out 510 that had never been rebuilt since new.

You can have Darton Sleeves http://www.darton-international.com/ make just about any sleeve you can dream of. There is also plenty of aftermarket piston manufactures like Ross, JE, CP, Wiesco, Diamond racing, Arias, Venolia, Flatlander, DPR, Bill Miller Engineering, and others that can re-engineer your pistons so they can last longer, and handle a lot more power than the Perkins made pistons.
