Advice needed on my 165 hydraulic project

Hi all, so I have my old 165 torn down currently and am panning to put a new brake disc and shoe on the ipto clutch. But while I have the tractor torn apart and the hydraulic pump out i would like to resolve some issues there as well. Some background: The lift arms have very little lifting compacity and sometimes dont want to go down either. Also when I cannot hold an implement at any place besides the whole way up or the whole way down. It will not rest in the middle at any point. It has been like this for a long time. I am nearly positive the pump ( pistons/ valves etc) are in good shape because of some work we had done not to long ago. All that said, I have been reading in my manual and it looks like a sticking control valve, bad relief valve, and poor adjustments, might be my problem. Any other things i should consider? More importantly, how does one go about replacing the control valve? The manual makes it sound quite intimidating. Is this something a mechanical minded farm boy can tackle with some time and a wrench?
Thanks for your advice!

Sounds like you should be able to do it, and it does seem intimidating at first, but it's not too bad if you take your time. Something else you may want to look at is how that shaft for the lift arms rotates (usually not a problem, usually the bushings are worn from lack of grease over the years). You may also want to take the piston out of the lift cylinder, and look it over to make sure there is no rust, or junk in it (but that's usually not a problem), might as well put new seals on the piston while you have it apart (they are cheap to replace).

Hey thanks!
The lift arms re not binding as far as i can tell but i will definitly look into the lift cylinder seals.
Also I have done a visual on the components of the draft control spring assembly and it all seems fairly good. are there signs i should look for that this assembly might be worn out?
Thanks!

The arms, and other components on the control quadrant usually don't wear much because they don't move very much. Just look it over carefully, and look for things that may not look right, or worn. If it comes down to it if you can take, and post a good picture here so you will have some extra eyes that can take a look if you think you see something that may not look right, or looks like something is missing.
