I have a 165 Massey Ferguson it is England made it has a blown head gasket on #1#2 cylinder how do you
identify what engine it has the numbers on the block are no readable it looks like the numbers maybe 21211A 47073 i have been told that the 212 engine the exhaust is on the right side of the engine and the starter is on the left side but not sure Any help would be appreciated

Go to "Agco parts books" online and have a look at the engine blocks yourself. You will have to go to the 165 tractor (GB) page.
Judging by your description the 212 does look to have the starter on the left and exhaust manifold on the right.

Hello,
I would confirm that the exhaust on the A4.212 engine is on the right hand side and the starter on the left as you sit in the seat.
The numbers that you have are likely to be '212UA'. The 'U' refers to being made in the United Kingdom and the 'A' means that it is made by Perkins to MF specification.
