I picked up massey ferguson mf 34a backhoe yesterday and would like to find out more about it. Like the year and what perkins diesel 3 cylinder it has so that I can order parts for it. The serial # on tractor is 2208333429 and the engine has a few different #'s 37111570/3 and MC 25208

The 34a is the loader model number which is separate from the tractor model number. If you could post some pictures of it, it would help to identify the tractor. The engine should be the AD3.152 which is a very reliable, and fuel efficient engine.

Like the other fellow said, that's the loader model. If it's a
3cylinder with that loader on it, I'd guess it's a 30b. Could
have mixed and matched with anything through the years
though. Pics?

I can't find it using the serial number you provided (it seems to be too long for a MF serial number). I did narrow them down by the 3 cylinder diesel engine, and the picture you posted.

MF industrial tractors with 3 cylinder diesel engine:
20B, 20C, 20D, 20E, 20F, 30B, 30E, 40, 40E, 205, 2200, 2203, 2205.

The only listed MF loader/backhoe tractor with a 3 cylinder diesel is a 20C but it shows to have a 32A front end loader.

The MF industrial tractor serial numbers are hard to find online, so you may want to try to contact a MF dealer. They maybe able to narrow down what you have.

"thank you for the info where is the serial # for the tractor located? I guess the one i posted is just for the loader

It could be riveted to the dash, or under the dash riveted to the dash support that bolts to the steering column. It should be either a 6, 7, or 9 digit number, or it may start with 9A.

The first 3 pics are of my MF20
didn't have a cab from factory
the cab is off of a Leland 2100
the loader is a MF32 and the backhoe is a MF52
serial num is located on the lower left dash

the other two pics are of a MF30 i was looking
at last sping at an auction to buy but was very
beatup it had a MF32a loader on it

hope these pics can be of a help to you

From what I can find from the limited MF industrial tractor serial numbers it would "seem to be" a 1977 20C industrial tractor with a 34A front end loader, and the back hoe "should be" a MF model 52A.

I have a 1969 MF 20 Industrial backhoe and from what I've learned they are very similar to the MF 135. Given that plus not being able to find much info on the 20 Ind., I went to Vintage Massey Ferguson 135.com and found this info. My serial number coincided with it being a 1969 model year build. Maybe not conclusive but a starting point. Hope it helps.

Massey Ferguson 135 Serial Numbers
Posted by Webmaster on May 13, 2010

These are the starting serial numbers for the Massey Ferguson 135 for each year of build. Production ran for 11 years between 1964 and 1975, with many of the tractors still in use on farm today. The tractor identification plate that has the serial number stamped on is located on the instrument panel, just below the steering wheel.

YEAR SERIAL NUMBER
1964 641000001
1965 641001909
1966 641014871
1967 9A10001
1968 9A39836
1969 9A63158
1970 9A87325
1971 9A107519
1972 9A128141
1973 9A152025
1974 9A182761
1975 9A207681

With your serial # this chart shows it to be a 1975. Like I stated before, exact build dates are sort of hard to come by as pertinent information sometimes gets lost over the years.

While some of the MF industrial tractors look like, and share a lot of the same parts as MF agricultural tractors MF kept the two divisions separate. When I called AGCO answers, and told them I had an industrial MF they referred me to a dealer that still deals with with MF industrial equipment. So you still can't 100% rely on using a industrial serial number as a agricultural serial number to get the right parts, or year model.

MF 20C serial numbers
1976: 9A250640
1977: 9A257837
1978: 9A280301
1979: 9A300200
1980: 9A326169
1981: 9A339334
1982: 9A350580

Point taken. Like jbarnes I was curious as to when my 20 industrial was built plus being a newbie to tractors. You bring up a very good point as the two (industrial and agricultural) may not coincide concerning years, part numbers, etc., Is there a number for AGCO answers that a newbie like me can call and find out more tractor info? I'm located in Missouri and the nearest MF dealer is in Marshfield, MO and they have been a tremendous help. Thanks ptfarmer for the info, we newbies count on tractor owners like yourself for this kind of guidance. Have a Great day :D
