MH 44 continental eng. help

Helping friend piece back together his 44 engine. We want to know what is intended to screw on to this brass fitting into this engine main bearing housing.

Looks like it has been tapped at the oil drain holes for the rear seal and a fitting installed. Continental rear caps are all designed that way with the drain holes. Not sure why fittings are there.
 
I cant imagine what purpose it would serve or what to do with IT? Just ignore it and finish the job I guess.
 
Looks about the right size for an oil pressure gauge fitting, but I'm not familiar with the MH44 engine (yet). If it goes into an oil gallery, I'd make sure it at least gets properly plugged to keep junk out.
