ferguson f40 rear end mystery

Looking for some help, I posted this question on the ferguson forum, but we didn't get anywhere. I have a ferg f40 with an unknown rear end housing. It is a high crop. The part #/stamping on the case doesn't match anything I can find, I have had the local dealer search the part number with no luck. The only other clue is there seems to be a yellow(industrial)base coat underneath. I've searched mf 50,65,35,135 and 150 and haven't found anything. Just trying to see where it may have come from.

That # may be a replacement casting # for a much newer tractor that happens to fit yours. Could be from an industrial tractor is my guess, as I have not found anything either. The casting # is not always the part # either.

Willowbk, a quick google search seems to point to a 165. Maybe someone with a 165 parts catalog may be able to confirm, or perhaps better yet, go to agcopartsbook.com and search there.

Probably a casting number, couldn't find that as a part number. Rather than fixing the old rearend (especially ones with planetaries) it was probably swapped out with a rearend from a industrial MF tractor.

My understanding is that M1 following the part number indicates the number of times that the part has been modified during its production life. What does that tell us about part numbers that have reached M90 something!
Ray.

With MF the p/n ending with M1 is a 1 piece part
and M91 is an assembly such as a water pump or.
Yes as said the updates move the # from M1 or M91
up to M2--- or M91 to M92-M93-----As also said
sometimes a casting No.looks like a p/n but is
not listed as such. Just sold all my info that
would bring this to light. Chuck
