MF165 lift cylinder

Got a question, can I replace a bad 3 1/8" lift cylinder with a 3 3/8" cylinder without any modifications. Will it bolt into place of the bad one. Really need help with this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

OldFord, I think that depends on what lift cover you have. Some had 1/2" studs to hold the cylinder to the top cover, and later ones had 9/16" studs. The larger cylinder would have the larger studs. The newer HD lift cover is part# 3761903M91, which replaces 184384M2, 884612M92, 190861M2, and 1870950M91. I know for fact the 184...M2 cover has half inch holes.

Also, that extra quarter inch of volume adds roughly another 1,100# of 'push' at the cylinder (at 1800psi). I'm not sure of the exact leverages to say how much extra it would actually lift, but it is significantly more strain on the pivot and lift parts, and may make front weights necessary to keep the front end down to balance it's higher 3pt capacity.

I looked at putting the 3.325" cylinder on my 65, but decided that going from the stock 3" to 3.125 was more than sufficient.
