I am splitting my mf175 to remove the pumps and repair the pto clutch, why does the maintance manual have you take off the side sheetmetal and block up the shift lever cover. Says something about the detnt spring tension springs will fly out. Is this needed to split it to take out the pumps? If so what springs am I looking for and what pointers do you have for me. I am to the point of splitting it now.

You don't need to remove the shift cover UNLESS you can't get to the MP oil line after the lift cover is off. That's how I do them anyway. There are three springs under the lift cover for the shift rail detents if you do take it off.

[Thats what I thought. I was able to disconnect the line already. Thanks for your input. It has been very helpful. I will know what parts to order by this afternoon!
