same QUESTION / TROUBLE :

(( OLD QUESTION : Posted by Byron Davenport on October 11, 2001 at 17:17:56 from (63.21.77.236):))
====================

I was bush hogging today and my PTO suddenly stopped working. I checked the lever position and it seems to stop just short of locking into gear for the PTO. I drained the fluid out of the gear box and took off the top lid where the shifters are and dug out 6-7 round rods,and 6-7 round rods withh a notch on the end and more of a rounded triangular shape. Further looking at the mechanism it looks like the steel pills may be from the clutch mechanism at the bottom of the gear box, for the PTO. How do I take this apart? Separate the engine? Rear transaxle? I don't have any sort of manual, but have worked on gear boxes for trucks before............Help???!!

MF 205 PTO not working????? Help ?? 81 model

Just looked at the parts listing, I wonder if the rods are actually shaft and/or internal gear teeth that have failed due to a sudden shock load? Looks like the trans assembly will have to come out to get it apart. Time for a service manual, I've never had my 205 apart.

I still was pulling bearing parts / pins out of my little MF205 Hopefully I got all out / Have to probably try some more but maget sticks to case when trying to fish out pieces - I've drained and mopped out all OIL - NO ground up metal ... ! TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT WENT BAD !
See my attached PIX : 12 of the round pins like bearings and 14 of the different shaped pins with slots on ends . Anout 1/4" dia and 1" long... also some spring material like what ever held it all together.

Big problem is you can't see down in the tranny to tell what is what ! I have a IT shop manual but doesn't really show what is what regardinf PTO !

I was thinking the MF205 apparently has a a JUNK PTO so maybe just put tranny cover back on and forget the PTO ....
We have had 16" of snow predicted so wanted to use it.. John
