A new owner of a 165 diesel w/a couple questions.

I`ve got the oil & filter for changing engine oil, but the transmission/hydraulic is a little low & was not sure of the proper oil? Trans oil is Not milky so was just going to top off. It`s got a selector/remote valve. I`ve not got manuals yet & I also searched for my answers using the search to the tune of 10+ pages. I`ve got the biggest part of a 5 gal. bucket of universal hyd. oil, just wondered if that was correct? Thank you in advance!....Gilbert
PS, I`ll try to get a couple pix up tomorrow as I`m perty prowd of my purchase!

They are great tractors, a nice size tractor.

Trans/hydraulic fluid is to be checked with the lift
arms in the down position and after tractor has been
setting for a few hours, so all oil has flowed back
into sump.

Be sure to lube the front axle pivot point.

Is the transmission a 3 speed with h/l plus multi
power or a 4 speed with h/l?

Enjoy, when I was a kid a neighbor had a 175 which was similar, great tractors.

With the multi power you most definitely need a oil that meets MF Spec. M-1129A. MF/AGCO part # 841571M1 Oil (2 U.S. Gallons, or part # 841576M1 Oil (5 U.S. Gallons) should you decide to get it from a MF dealer.

Sorry, my last post Had to be a quick 1! I Thank you both!! I checked my 5 ga. bucket & all I was missing was the A at the end, M-1129 compliant. I`ve not added yet, not sure what that added A means.....its ok, I`m not in That big of a hurry...Figure I`ll try to put some pix up tomorrow....TY again!...Gilbert

Thank you ptfarmer & maxwell for your help!!! I`ve got a Lovely new issue....I`ve gotta say, I`ve not owned a diesel at All, so I`m in learn mode. I "think" I`ve got it figered out its got air in the fuel system. I`m Sorry if this is a stupid question & I Did hit the Search....& searched......I SURE, hope the injector pump isn`t going out! Ok, wanted to Thank, but Also ask, is there a bleeding process...Thanks again.....GAS

The lift pump has a small lever you can work by hand to bleed the filters, and injector pump (the injector pump has 2 bleed screws). Once you get it bleed to the injector pump, loosen the injector lines, at the injectors, crank the engine over until you see fuel coming out at the injector lines, and the injectors. Tighten the injector lines back up, and it should be good to go. The injection system is pretty reliable, but if the lift pump is going bad, a leak at one of the fuel filters, or leaking fuel line going to the injector pump it can cause problems.

I Thank You Sir! Now I`ve got to say, the lift pump(brake side) looks like a brand new 1 But, its leaking some right there. I can see it running down the block! It also doesn`t look like they used sealer either, just the gasket. I`m not having any luck at posting a pic, so I`ll try to talk the wife into later on. I Thank you again!
Gilbert...

Oh, sorry but 1 more thing....I plugged in the block heater also(it was 48 degrees out, & I was told a diesel may need a `lil extra warm`n), I grabbed me a cold 1 & sat down to think. I about had it finnished when all of a sudden I see sparks fly then a small flame. I unpluged it then blew it out( Nope, didn`t have to use the rest of my beer...lol). I "guess" thats antifreeze behind the block heater? I haven`t changed the oil yet incase it warms the oil...Thank All, again!!!

I don't know about the 4 cylinder Perkins in the 165, but my brothers 150 with the 3 cylinder Perkins starts right up every time with no heating required (even on the one winters day many years ago when the temperature 7 degrees!).
