Oil bath air cleaner cartridges??

unless the oil bath air cleaner has been damaged, my question is why would you want to change it out.

it works good, if you keep the oil changed out in the bottom of the cleaner.

I also took mine off one time and soaked the air cleaner tower in kerosene for about 5 hours.

then washed it out over and over with clean kerosene until the kerosene ran clear.
the old filter tower was very dirty,

I let the filter tower set out in the sun 1 day and over night to drain out all kerosene.

re-installed the air filter with new oil and was good to go.

these old filters have been providing clean air to the tractors for 50-60 years.

some have changed over the oil filter to a spin on.
but on a ferguson with the oil filter mounted down low, it can get hit out in the woods, knock a hole in that cheap tin filter and your oil is gone in a minute, you could ruin your engine.

the old canister oil filter housing is build rugged and tough to withstand rough abuse.

just my two cents.

Going from the oil bath air filter to the paper element filter should give you more power (on my brothers old 1965 VW with the stock 1200cc engine, switching it from oil bath to paper there was a very noticeable difference in performance). If the oil bath air filters were so good they would still be using them. On the old canister oil filters it doesn't take a lot of force to bust, or bend the hollowed out bolt that holds the canister on (which I have seen).

You should be paying attention to everything going on while you are working a tractor, so you shouldn't loose an engine over a oil filter that should get a hole poked in it. That's my .02

Why would you want to do this.

Oil bath are cleaners are just about the best air filter commonly available.

They were replaced to reduce costs rather than to improve performance of either the cleaner or the engine.

The main reason is my issue with remembering to replace the oil, and also the initial cleaning of a seriously damaged and filthy oil bath. I'll also be darned if I can separate it to get the old element out...

Just about every tractor I've worked on with the oil bath air filter "usually" has it in front of the radiator. The radiators are choked up with oil from the filter, and dirt. They also have hardly any oil in them.
