MF 50 not so exact fit hydraulic pump

I recently bought an aftermarket hydraulic
pump for an MF 50, supposed to be a direct
replacement. I think it is made in India.
First, it was to wide (about 1/8" wider than
original) to fit through the lift cover
opening. I ended up having to split the
tractor to install it. Now I have the pump in
place and the tractor bolted back together, but
the dowel holes on the pump don't quite line up
with the holes in the housing. The pump is
toward the rear of the tractor about 1/8". Has
anybody run into this before? The pump wont
slide forward any further. The only Idea I
have is to grind the dowels down kind of
tapered on the end so they will slide into the
holes on the pump. What do you think?

Hello Morgan,
Don't under any circumstances grind the dowels down even to a taper. If the pump is 1/8" too far rearwards you will probably need to remove one third of the dowel material. The pump will not have a positive location and will probably wear the remains of the dowel pins very quickly.
Do you still have the old pump to measure and make a comparison with the new one? If you are able to ascertain that it was too wide to start and now it is too long perhaps you should be able to get your money back. It will be a pain if you have to split the tractor again but at least you hopefully will get the right pump next time and install it correctly.
Let us know how you get on.

Dang it, I just thought of something. Are there needle bearings in the pilot hole in the shaft that comes from the engine? It could very well be that some of them are out of place, causing the shaft to not seat all the way. Thanks for the help- Morgan
