240 / 245 massey

there are 2 tractors near me for sale. almost same condition / same price. would someone explain the main differences between a 240 and 245. thanks

my neighbor has owned a 245 for years and it has given him good service.

the other one, I do not know about.

but, beware, some of these models did have problems with wear or weak front axles pivots.

do your homework before you buy, try to talk with guys that own the tractors, not just salesmen.

I'm not positive, but I think the 245 is a newer version of the 135. I think the 240 is a cheaper tractor. I know a couple of 240 owners that weren't real happy with them.

Both models are updated 135s and can be a real handy little tractor with the great little perkins 3 cylinder diesel. Most of the 200 series suffered from paint peel and body rust issues but that is an easy fix and parts are readily available if you have a good dealer handy. I prefer the look of the 240 and 250 models but that is purely cosmetics. I would buy which ever one has been maintained the best, has the best tires, best price, etc.
