size of mf175 lift cylinder

I have a question for all the massey ferguson experts. im in the process of repairing the lift on a mf175 with pressure control. I bought new rings for the piston and they are to small. the parts book lists a 3 3/8" piston. this piston measures 3 5/8". I have already looked at later and larger models and cannot find a 3 5/8" piston listed. and help would be appreciated.

The MF 253, 283UK, 360, 362, 375, 383, 390, 390T, 393, 396, 399 have a 3 21/32" piston (.031" larger than 5/8").
The MF 285, 1080, 1085 has a 3 11/16" piston. They all look like they may bolt up (interchange). That's all I can find.

Hi, The MF UK parts list shows the cylinder as being 897 594M1 and the ring kit 897 597M1.

Another UK supplier lists the ring set as 897 597M1 and the cylinder as 1671 082M1. It says that this is a 3 3/8" bore. There is nothing of a larger diameter given for the 175. Going from 3 3/8 to 3 5/8 bore will give a slower response but a significantly greater lift if the maximum pressure is correctly set for the tractor. It should be remembered that if the working pressure is exceeded then you run the risk of damaging components.

my thinking is that somewhere along the way someone swapped the lift or just installed the wrong cylinder. from what you posted this could be a lift from a 1080 or a 285, without knowing all the casting codes etc. it would be hard to tell the difference since all the mf lifts of that generation were very similar. I am willing to gamble and order rings for a 1080 and see if they fit.
