Massey 35X High Oil Pressure

I have been lucky enough to secure the purchase of a Massey 35X that was owned by my grand father from the mid 1960s. A bit of stalking and detective work paid off!

Since the tractor left us it had been over hauled about 10 years ago and has only done 800 hours since. All the juices are in the right place and it starts and runs way better than when we last had it!

The only concern I have is that the oil pressure gauge just goes straight of the scale once the tractor starts and seems to stay there. The gauge is a replacement from the when the overhaul was done so should be ok. If I pull the dip stick out while she"s running nothing comes out which seems positive. It hasn"t had an oil change for some time and I noticed from some forums that this maybe an issue? Is there a product anyone in the UK can recommend to flush the oil through?

I understand that a bypass or pressure relief valve can jam...

Any help would be appreciated

I would just change the oil, filter run it for a couple of hours, then change the oil, and filter again while it's hot. Sometimes those oil flush concoctions do more harm than good.

My fe35 gas has an adjustable pressure control valve on the oil filter canister, yours my be set too high.

My parents purchased a NEW MASSEY FERGUSON 35X in 1963 with a 3 cylinder PERKINS Diesel A3.152 ENGINE made in COVENTRY ENGLAND with a differential lock. In May of 1985 the engine was overhauled for the second time and now with less than 700 hrs.. since last overhaul, there was an oil pressure "so it seemed problem" When I removed the ENGINE OIL FILTER CARTRIDGE ( tractor had not ran in the past seven years)it looked like a block of TAR. Oil filter was changed, engine oil changed "10 weight oil" and then engine brought up to operating temp. Engine oil and filter changed for second time again "30 weight oil" and all looked fine. Changed both DIESEAL FUEL filters, Tractor attached to 3 bottom plough (3 point hitch)and placed to work. All looks fine.
Try to purchase MASSEY SERVICE MANUAL 1448 811 M1
OIL FILTER adaptor for Massey 135 AD3.152 Engine. Will it fit and operate properly on 35X ? Shall look into installing some time in 2015

Thanks for the replies.

I have changed the oil twice as suggested, first time round it didn't seem too bad. I have also changed the pipe to the gauge and the gauge.

The pressure is still going straight off the scale as soon as I start the tractor.

I have heard mention that I can change the pressure release valve as it maybe stuck. Does anyone know if you can do this with out having to drop the sump?

Any other suggestions out there???

Thanks in advance.

This may sound crazy but put a quart automatic transmission fluid in it (type F would be best). ATF has a lot more detergents in it than regular motor oil does, it does help clean out some of the "gunk" that motor oil can't (old mechanics trick).
