Hey guys, I am looking for a haying tractor in the 60-80hp range and came across a mf 175. It has over 5000 hrs on it but looks good from the pictures sent to me. Was wondering what problems these had or things to make sure to check out when i look at it. What is an average price of these things and are they much different than a 165? Thanks

I own one with Multipower, dry brakes and PTO clutch. Its been a very good, reliable tractor. Not sure what they sell for now.

The 165 is kind of a combination of the smaller 150, and the bigger 175. The 165 has around 53 pto hp while the 175 63 pto hp. The price for 175's are in the $5000 - $7500 range. Like anything else if it been well taken care of, and hasn't been abused it's a good tractor.

I've got a 175. Its a very good tractor. Mine has nearly 9000 hrs on it.

I have a 1973 model 175. It had just under 5000 hours on it when I got it now it has a little over 6000. It is an 8 speed model although I wish it was 6 speed with multipower. It's very fuel efficient. I bought it at the local Massey dealer for $4200.00 and I was very happy to get it at that price. It is gonna need brakes on it this winter but that is to be expected. Its not uncommon for Perkins engines to go well over 10,000 hours without being rebuilt if they have been taken care of. I've seen it.

175's have the 236 Perkins. 165's have the 203. Both good engines. I have a 175 I bought cheap with a cracked block. Was going to swap blocks and resell it and make some money. I got it fixed, used it a little , and still have it. Mine has the multi power transmission. Didn't like that at first because of the lack of engine braking in low. Now I'm used to that and like it. It's my go to baling tractor. The 12 speeds are nice and it handles a baler with a load of hay behind it fine. Very easy on fuel too. They don't seem to be worth as much as a deere of the same era and size. Don't know why, they're every bit as good. They are for sale in my area from $4000-5500. Central michigan. I've been told the multi power is the weak point. If the one you're looking at has it, get it good and warm and make sure it shifts from low to high without issue. Haven't had any issues with mine though. If the multi power is in high and you stop on a hill, you have to put it in low to shift gears. Thought something was wrong with mine until I read the manual.
