I brought this MH30 home. It turns over but I haven't done much to try to get it running yet. I'm assuming that's a Marvel carb... Is that correct? What is the purpose of the levers on the right side of the housing just below the seat? Thanks

That is a Marval carb, model TSX 308 if it's original. That unit under the seat with the lever is called a power lift, there is a shaft out the other side with an arm on it for a cultivator lift, or maybe the arm has been removed and their also used to be a metal shield over the arm. to use it the pto has to be running, hit the lever and the arm would rotate so many degrees, hit the lever again and it would return to it's original position, used to lift a cultivator either full up or full down. hydraulics replaced this unit and were way handier. that's an earlier 30, I don't believe I have ever seen a wide front like that one.

You have a very descent looking 30. The wide front is early Massey Harris going back to the 101's. The piece on the front of the frame has been added. The wishbone held them on.

According to the serial, it's a 48. The front end looks weird to me, but this is my first MH. The rims at least are not original. I've changed the oil and gotten some water out of the rear end. I wonder-- is it difficult to find the arm for the power lift?
Not a necessary item but might be interesting to have. Thanks for the help...

I will say it once or a thousand times.DO NOT_-DO NOT PUT THAT ARM ON WITHOUT THE SHIELD ON.That lift is gear driven and will not go backward, too many people have lost a foot or part of leg due to it pinning them between it and the deck plate. That thing is LIVE anytime the PTO is running and under the wrong usage,"A Death Trap" waiting to happen.

I have a 1951 30 standard which has the hydraulic cylinder in place of the mechanical lift and it seems safer as you can reverse cylinder direction at any time with the control lever
