Search for MF 35x - Question about UK serial number Reg

I am looking for some help to find a tractor my family once owned.

Frustratingly, I don't have the serial number and only part of the Registration number. Despite trawling through old family photos I can only come up with the first three digits.

I contacted the dealer my father sold the tractor to. They don't seem to keep detailed records and have pointed me to where they think they sold it. My father sold it in 1999. I follow up on the lead and found a 35x that looks like it could be the one. The issue is that it doesn't have a registration number on it and the current owner has not got a V5 for it.

My question is: Now that I have a note of the above tractors serial number can this be cross referenced with the the part of the registration number I have to confirm the identity?

I don't want to pursue this tractor if its not our old one!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,
I have to say that I think that this with the info you have is a bit of a 'needle in a haystack' search. Frequently you will find that incorrect numbers are fitted to tractors to make them look a little more 'legal'.

Usually there is an identifying feature of some sort that might be visible in your photos that would make identification a little more positive.

For a 35 it might be whether a fan guard was fitted to the bonnet, position of headlamps if fitted, a mirror arm, licence holder or any damage to the metalwork.

I have tried to trace my previos tractors without success. If you think it might be local then some legwork might help.

As a last resort you might try the DVLA at Swansea but I don't think they would help even if they had the records.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice David, I had a stroke of luck today, my Dad found the old registration document with the registration and serial number on! Happy days.

Turns out the tractor I have found is our old tractor. Better still, the current owner is happy to sell it.

What this space for requests on fixing problems on a 35X.

Does anyone want a 1972 Massey 135 with flexi cab? I"m the second owner from new and it"s very original and in good working order. Its located in Kent, England.....Offers invited....!
