tight bushings

I use an all thread rod inserted thru the spindle housing with a nut & washer on the bushing end and another on the opposite end of the rod tighten the nut slowly and draw the bushing into place, plastic bushings are a pain to install and some will sometimes compress a little too much and have to be polished out to allow the spindle shaft to go back in,i'd rather use brass lined steel bushings

Don"t have any idea, but a thought comes to mind; would soaking them in boiling water make them pliable, flexible, enough to work?
