I have a chance to purchase a Massey Ferguson 250, 3 cylinder diesel with 7000 hours. I'm not familiar with this model, anything in particular to look out for, thanks in advance for advice. Bernsy

I think you mean a Massey Ferguson 150, my brother has one, and it's a damn good tractor (it's like a 135 but with a 165 hood, and better steering). Main things to look at is the front end, make sure the axle pivot, bushings, and thrust bearings on the spindles aren't worn out. Make sure all the steering, and brakes are good, and not wore out.
The most important thing are the planetarys on the rear axle on each side by the tires, there is a big plug on each one to check the oil level. If the oil is rusty brown in color, has a bunch of metal flakes floating around, and or has water in them it's probably not worth buying unless you can get it really cheap. Those planetarys cost some big money to repair, plus the dealer has to press them together with special tools. If the plantertarys check out good any other problems aren't that expensive to fix.

I've never seen one of those around here. After looking at the 250 it's more like a modern version of a 135 without the swept back front axle. Looks like it doesn't have the planetarys on the rear axle which is a good thing, should be a good tractor with the old reliable AD3.152 Perkins diesel.

I wonder if the planetarys in the 250 are easier to re-build than the ones in the 150, and older tractors that have them. On the 150 you buy each individual needle bearing serarately which is crazy.
