MF 202 Industrial clutch release bearing

Hello to all, and thanks for all the help so far on "Bull" the 202 Industrial. Got the bottom end of the engine back together and waiting on the valve overhaul kit so I can get the head in the shop, hopefully next week.
Thought I"d check a few things while I"m waiting and decided the clutch release bearing should be replaced, rather noisy and seems dry. Only problem is, I can"t get the carrier out of the bearing... I"ve tapped on it a little bit, but nothing gives. Anyone ever replaced the release bearing, if so, what did it take? Am I missing something?? The 202 manual doesn"t cover this..
As always, thanks for all replies, you folks are great!!

Roger

Hi,
I have a MF 1958 gas 50 Ag. My clutch went out due to the throw out bearing (clutch release) freezing up and then it wore the clutch fingers out.
I put the bearing holder ( whatever you callit) in the vise snug and used punch and hammer and kept tapping it, more like hitting it , but not using brute force till finally I got it a little loose and just kept working at it.
This is my second clutch job on a tractor, I am no expert.
Also I was careful of the ears for the return springs.

That's a strange looking throw out bearing, you should be able to put the two ears on a couple of pieces of wood (like a couple of scrap pieces of a 2x4) with the bearing facing down, then just gently tap the bearing off (that's how I just did mine on my 2135 industrial). It shouldn't take a whole lot of effort for it to come off.

Thanks for the replies guys.
P.T., I was thinking along those lines, only not much for the ears to catch on, afraid of breaking them.
Tim, sounds like your method may work, I just didn't want to smack it to hard, but I'll give it a try this evening when I get in from work. Forgot to mention this is a 1965 model 202 Industrial (Workbull?)..

Thanks again,
Roger

That's why I used 2x4's on mine, I didn't want to break the ears off (that was the last holding me up from putting the engine back into my tractor which I did get accomplished last night, finally!). The 2x4's provide it kind of cushion than putting them directly on steel.

Hey guys
Update on the release bearing.
Ears wouldn"t sit on 2X4"s without rocking, kinda small, but I was able to sit it in the vise with the carrier facing down and using a brass drift, a couple of good stern smacks, it popped right out. Got the carrier cleaned up, new release bearing ordered, so now I wait...

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate all the input,

Roger
