Massey Ferguson 65 3 point hitch

Hello all.
If I leave my 3 point hitch up at night it will be all the way down in the morning with a large pool of fluid under it. It is leaking on both side right where the 2 arms connect to the main frame .
What needs to be repaired here ? In my parts book it shows two o rings on the shaft . Is this the problem?
Any thoughts appreciated .
Brian

You are going to have to pull the top cover off (which is no small job) to replace the two O-rings along with the four bushings the shaft rotates on. Does it leak there when you are working the 3 point? I park mine with arms down because they
leak down overnight (but doesn't leave a puddle).

Just about every one of the old Massey Fergusons I've seen when the 3 point is left up it will usually go down overnight on it's own (but I've never seen one leave a puddle of oil from it going down).

Brian, it's very common with ALL older tractors to have the 3pt (or other hydraulics) "leak down" overnight, providing they haven't been properly rebuilt recently. The Massey's have the lift cylinder fed from the top, which means that any grit or debris that gets through the hydraulic pump can end up trapped in the lift cylinder, and scored cylinder walls are the result.

As for leaving a puddle? I have a Massey 65, and even though the lift cover was shot (well beyond just beat bushings and worn O rings), it didn't leak significant oil from the rockshaft.

Is the rear end oil level too high? You may have a leak at the PTO shifter hole (left side), or on the right side from the dipstick cover, or from a blown O-ring under the hydraulic valves (or cover) where it sits on the front of the lift cover. The hydraulic remote couplings may also be leaking enough to leave a 'puddle' overnight.

What year is this tractor? Earlier than '62 and it probably has 90W for hydraulic oil. Later than that and Massey went to UTF. According to the experts, you can replace the gear oil with UTF, but I'd fix the leaky lift cylinder and wash things out first.
