MF 50 and 65 Hydraulic issues diagnosis

I have a 50 and a 65 and both have the same issues, slow lift arms, that only lift when the clutch is engaged, and slow leakdown if the revs drop. Higher engine revs lift the arms higher and faster. I have tried to find this subject in the archives, but there are just too many variations to sort out.

Is there a simple way to diagnose and pinpoint the problem before I tear-into it?

And is this usually a major or minor repair???
Is there anyway to know?

The 50 is mid fifties--1955 or 56
The 65 is 1960 I think.

Many thanks, Edd

Sounds like you have an internal leak if the arms drop with lower engine RPM and raise with higher RPM. Take off the right side round cover (with the dipstick) and look for leaks with a load on the arms. Don't stick your hand in there with the engine running! A light and sometimes a mirror can help spot leaks. It could be worn out piston rings, cracked cylinder, relief valve stuck open, leaking O-rings on the standpipe to name a few.
