Need Some Help Installing Sealing ring and O ring MF135

Hi, I ordered the sealing ring (nitrile) and the rubber o ring on the new 3 1/8" hydraulic ram on a MF135. The sealing ring is the size/width of the groove in the piston. How are they installed? Does the sealing ring get installed first and then the rubber o ring on top of it? How do you expand the nitrile sealing ring as it is way too small to pry over the piston and it is very hard? I tried putting it in boiling water and now got in on the piston but it will not shrink in size to allow the rubber ring to be installed on top of it.

Thanks.

There are no instructions in my manual as to how to install these new style rings as my manual only covers the old 3 steel ring pistons. No instructions came with my order. I think the rubber o-ring goes on first and sinks into the groove, then you need to somehow expand the sealing ring to go over the piston and on top of the rubber o-ring (which is the opposite of Fords). That is the only way this could be possible as I see it. Unfortunately, I banged up the sealing ring and do not trust it. I need to order another sealing ring and o-ring kit! $20 wasted.

Thanks, those are the 3 metal rings for the original style piston. The new upgrade piston has only one groove and uses a rubber o-ring and a teflon seal ring. I order the new piston and the new rubber/teflon seal ring, but I messed up the teflon seal ring and need to order another one.

My question is wheter the o-ring goes in the groove first, and then the seal ring on top of it, over vice versa. On Fords, the rubber o-ring is outside and is against the lifty cylinder wall. I think on the MF it is reversed.

Any help is appreciated.

Who made the new piston/seal kit, and what part number(s) is it? (never heard of a replacement like that). As far as the seals most seem either to put the o-ring on the bottom, or have the o-ring along with a plastic backing ring.

There is a replacement piston for the 3 1/8"
piston that has a single groove and uses a rubber
o-ring and a teflon sealing ring. Cost $50
delivered. Here are a few links:

There supposedly is no leaking from this new system versus an OEM 3 steel
ring system.

I ordered the new seal ring today and will post
pics later.

o-ring goes in first then the Teflon o-ring is refer to as an energizer, you have to warm the Teflon up oil it then work it over the piston it will have to be compressed back down once in place.there are several methods I wrap a couple layers of electrical tape over the ring and use a ring compressor and slowly press it down it will retain it's shape but the barrel will have to have a tapered opening to be able to install it without damage unless you have an installation collar

Wow, I wish I had known that about the need to chamfer the edge of the opening as I would have never bought this new type piston. In my view, this is a bad design and system. I will try to install it though once the new seal comes in.
