It still might be stuck in first gear even tho the shifter lever is in neutral. With the engine running and your foot disengaging the clutch put the lever back into first gear again and drive a couple foot ahead in that gear then try other desired gear. Also make sure hi/low lever is in either hi or low.
If none of the above works then you might have to remove your foot accelerator pedal and check for dirt build up under linkages that can restrict movement of levers.....also may need to adjust linkages???

Don't force this. Take off the filler cap, get a long heavy screw driver and a flashlight. The 3 'rails' in there must be aligned. Use the screwdriver to unjam the closest, and get the hi/low lever in neutral too. Then you should be fine. don't use the gear shift to cram it out of gear, then you'll have problems. Unfortunately, this happens once in a while, so carry a wrench to remove the cap and a screwdriver in the tool box.

I have the dash apart. The shifter won"t work. It won"t go into any gear. Could I have broke something in the shift bar?

Tony in Mass is right on. I've got a 285 and the same thing happens on occassion. I use Tony's fix, it's real simple.

Found the linkage from the shift can to the arm on the tranny was broke. Hope that's all. Thanks for the help guys.
