Saw a very nice model 65 diesel today everything works as it
should nice paint tires good etc. don't know anything about this
model what's some opinions please?

I bought one not long ago and am still getting it ready with a loader, hoses, lift pump, power steering seal kit. I like it but already have 3600 in it.Some have multipower mine doesn't.

This one has no loader just bare tractor asking price 4500. Forgot to ask the hours doubt matters much with the diesel. Plenty of power no leaks anywhere.

$4,500 is pretty steep.

No doubt they're good tractors. But I wouldn't pay that for it.

Where in central Illinois are you? I live near Champaign at the moment.

If it makes any difference on price this one comes from a collector restored and show quality paint. Looking for an inexpensive pasture mowing tractor. I'm between cu and danville Boss heading to penfield in the a.m. Hope the rain stays away

The multi-power just doubles your gear selection (it has a high, and low range) but you can go from high to low range without using the clutch. With the multi-power in low range you loose the ability to use the engine to slow the tractor down (like when going down a hill). For what you are going to use it for you don't really need multi-power (plus the multi-power is just one more thing that can break down). Something else to look at is the planetary gears on the rear axle. There is one on each side by the rear wheels, you should pull the oil level plug on them, and check the oil in them, if the oil is brown, and or has water in them, then pass on it (those planetary gear sets are expensive to fix). How big of a shredder (and how big is the area you are needing to cut?)

My brother has a 1965 Massey Ferguson 150 row crop with multi-power. It's a damn good tractor (Perkins 3 cyl diesel), he had to fix the multi-power once, and had to re-build both plantaries. Fixing the multi-power wasn't too hard (we did that), the planetaries on the other hand the parts where very expensive. All the little needle bearings are only sold individually! (they do not sell a rebuild kit for them). Plus the dealer had to press them all back together (they has some special tools to help press it back together).
