Is the MF 235 an Orphan year?

I"ve been looking for an MF135 diesel but came across a MF235 .

1) Is the 3 cyl perkins diesel engine the same in the two tractors?

It appears that MF went to a MF 240 the following model year which they stayed with for several years.

2) Does the MF 235 have any unique and rare parts that aren"t available for the MF 135 or MF240?
3) Should I be spooked by this tractor being offered only for a single model year?

Thanks

Look at TractorData for the two tractors and compare the data. The MF235 seems to be a slight upgrade to the MF135 as far as the hydraulics, but other than that they seem the same. Looks like the same Perkins diesel engine, same transmission, etc.

These tractors had alot of steering problems that is why they ony were made in 1975 and 1976

VP. Are the steering issues updatable with aftermarket components or from newer MFs like the 240 or 245?

Thanks

Ed

Rob. I did look at tractor data and saw some similarities (like the Perkins engine model number) but I didn't know if there were some specific differences like:

Totally one-off PTO components, steering components etc etc. that might cause problems if I needed parts in the future.

Thanks

my friend has a mf 245, it has been a good tractor
it has a perkins diesel engine, 4 speed trans with hi/lo, no multi-power. power steering

I believe I would look farther before I bought the mf 235, if they were only made for two years.
at least know why???????????????

The 235 has a VERY bad reputation. The 135 and the 240/245 both have good reputations.

Keep looking.

the 135,230,235,245 were basically the same tractors as far as the engine, transmissions, rear end and lift, the first 235 & 245 had different piston chambers, injector size and pop pressure than the later 230 and 245 the early models started better cold, the power steering on the 235 was similar to the 135 which we had trouble with too,230 and 245 had hydrostatic power steering, biggest difference between the 230 and 245 was pedal configuration I would not think twice about buying a good 235,neighbor still has one and I know it had some rough treatment and it's still going

You might be confusing UK and US tractors. In the UK they went from the 135(1979) to the 240. In the US they went from 135(1974) to the 235 and then to 245 and 230. I think in France they had 135's till about 1982 or 83. 235 had major power steering issues and that's why it was dropped after less than 2 years. I believe it could also be bought with manual steering that was fine. 235 had 41 PTO HP compared to about 38 for the 135. 245 had 42 PTO HP(2250 RPM)and the 230 had 34 PTO HP(2000 RPM). 230 was an economy model and I think had power assist and manual steering options. 245 had full hydrostatic power steering. 230 could put out more power with 135 pistons installed. From what I understand it's a major job changing the steering on a 235. That's why MF redesigned it with the 245.
