cleaning the hydraulic system 'screen' on MF 150 Diesel

The hydraulic system on my 1973 MF 150 diesel once was quick to respond and had notable lifting power for my 3 pt hitch and the loader I have installed on it. However, lately the 3 pt hitch lift seems anemic and the loader lifts slow and jerks as it goes up. It is my understanding there is a protective 'screen' in the hydraulic system on a MF 150 diesel - that periodically needs to be cleaned or it will reduce the volume going through the lines. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of where I can find out how to clean this screen?

It should be the same as my 65. You access it
through the cover where the PTO lever is. It has
like a wing nut cover on it and sometimes a wire
holding it on. A new one is like eleven or twelve
bucks. Take care to get the PTO lever aligned
correctly when you put it back together.

thank you for your help. Can you tell me where you get the new filter; does it have to be ordered from a special parts house...or is it readily available at a MF dealer?

This site should have them or a dealer. I think I
got mine off e bay. I just looked in the cupboard
and see I have a spare. sparex# is s.41450. Says on
the box it replaces 185551M93 and 884906M92. Hope
this helps.

The safety wire is important to leave on. If the screen falls off, all the dirt will flow right through the pump and entire hyd. system.
