Hello

I have a MF 135 that has a alternator replacing the original generator.

It has a battery isolation switch which has a red light when you have power, there is also a amp meter that I am trying to connect.

When i complete wiring the amp guage and it shows - amps the red light won't work when i remove the wire from the isolation switch the light will operate, but the amp meter will not.

CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP

Any advice welcome
Regards
Don

"battery isolation switch"...do you mean a heavy duty switch that is installed, normally in the ground wire side of the battery to kill all electric power when the tractor sets idle?

If so, it should have nothing to do with the alternator circuit.

The output of the alternator goes to one side of the ammeter, and other side of ammeter to battery hot side, usually connected with the big battery cable at the starter solenoid/switch.

Light and ignition switch supplies connect to alternator side of ammeter.

With engine not running, turn on lights and or ignition switch. If ammeter swings negative it is wired correctly. If ammeter swings positive reverse the ammeter connections.

If you are using the common Delco 10SI series alternator the big output goes to ammeter. If it is a one wire unit you are set to go.

If it is the 3 wire alternator pin #2 on the plug can connect to large output stud and pin #1 through a diode or indicator light to switched side of ignition switch.
