Push the clutch down and the tractor keeps going. It"s doing it more often now.I have a feeling the cure requires splitting the tractor. What"s causing this and what needs to be done? thanks much.

Hi, Either the adjustment is out preventing the main plate from being released when the pedal is pressed or more likely the lining on the pressure plate side of the main plate has broken and part of it become sandwiched between the main plate and pressure plate.
Remove the inspection cover underneath and using a flashlight look at the position of the release fingers relative to the face of the release bearing. I think that you will find that one or two will be lower than the other. This will confirm the 'extra' thickness of lining present.
The only solution is to split the tractor and replace parts as required. The attached photo is an extreme case of the lining breaking up. It comes from an MF 362 clutch replacement completed today.
