Mf 180 transmission filter

I am having a hard time getting to the transmission/hydraulic
Filter on my mf 180 multi power. I can't believe this should
Require so much digging. I tried to get at it through the access plate that the pto linkage hooks to but am afraid to pull it off as the pto shaft comes through the cover so is obviously connected on the inside to something. Then I tried to get at it under the seat but the further I get the more it seems like too much trouble this way. There must be an easier route or nobody would ever clean this filter. Please help if you know for sure where this filter is and how to get at it

According to the 180 book I have, to get to the filter in the transmission you remove the hydraulic lift cover as you say. It's just all the other things in the way that make it a PITA to do so. So you need the manual to do it, several things need to be unhooked before taking the cover off or damage will occur. Their is a round filter on the hydraulic pump held on by a cover that is bolted and safety tie wired. Even deeper is a screen on a supply tube to the system. As you say "There must be an easier route or nobody would ever clean this filter." an old adage comes to mind, if it ain't broke don't mess with it and I'm using that not to do it to my tractor. So ?? why are you digging in to it ?? By chance that the multi-power is acting up.. you do realize that their is a filter for it up front of the radiator next to the hdy oil cooler, you should check it out as well. Changing that filter brought my tractor multi-power back to life..
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will also respond.

Thanks for your reply. I was afraid if I got too deep I'd damage something so unless someone comes up with an easier way I'm going to reassemble and pretend I never went that far.
Just can't understand why they would build something this way

Sorry, I did not mean to scare you off. I would not try to do it without the book, is what I was really getting at! It has a three page detailed description on how to do it. As you said a PITA, but it can be done if truly needed.
